Sometimes students change their attendance assignment in Canvas after you have already graded it. They do this to receive a higher grade. The following steps will outline how to stop students from doing this.
How to Prevent Students from Changing Attendance Grades
- Review Zoom Attendance – Every week, confirm who actually attended the gathering. Make note of those students who did not attend.
- Update the Assignment – If a student marked that they attended but you know that they did not, adjust the “Attendance” assignment to reflect true participation.
- Close Submissions – Once you have updated the true participation grade, change the assignment’s due date to the current date. This locks the assignment and prevents students from editing their self-reported grade.
- Click on the title of the specific assignment you want to edit.
- On the assignment's page, click the "Edit" button.
Scroll down to the "Assign Access" area.
- Adjust the due date by clicking the calendar icon next to each field.
- Click Save to update the assignment. Students will now no longer be able to override your adjusted assignment grade.
