When Should a Teacher Request a Canvas Class for their in-Person or Remote Teaching?
Teachers should request a Canvas class when they need enhanced class communication, such as Canvas inbox messages or announcements and lesson functionality, and when outside-the-class learning activities, such as Canvas discussion boards, are required.
Teachers should not request Canvas if they do not intend to use it because it is an added expense. It should only be used when adding efficiency to a class.
Teachers should not request Canvas if they are requesting online learning. The Canvas option is used to supplement in-person or remote learning only and does not replace the online class option.
To request Canvas for their in-person or remote classes, teachers should request approval from program administrators, who will then add the Canvas option via a checkbox in WISE after they have created the class.
What if a Teacher Wants Access to Canvas to Learn and "Play" in?
Request a “Sandbox” course rather than use the add a Canvas class option. (See S&I Online Teacher Frequently Asked Question item #6 on how to request this).
Can This Canvas Class be Used for Makeup Work?
No, Canvas is not an approved option for makeup work. (See Online Seminary Makeup Work).
What Comes in the Canvas Course?
The Canvas course will be empty. The teacher will need to design their own activities. Use the Canvas Teacher Help Guides to learn how to use Canvas.
Can I use Content from the Online Program Courses and Put it in My Empty Canvas Class?
No, content from the Online Program Courses cannot be added to an empty Canvas class. The option does not replace an online course. If you would like to teach an online class, please talk with your program administrator to see if that option is available for you.
